Britannia Iron Works: Gainsborough

Britannia Iron Works: Gainsborough

Gainsborough has been transformed from a run down derelict town into a thriving commercial, residential and visitor destination.  At the heart of its transformation lies the redevelopment of the Britannia Iron Works, a large industrial complex which dominated the town centre.

wcec worked closely with West Lindley District Council and their development partner Dransfield Properties to come up with a sustainable plan for the site and one which could link into the surrounding area, incorporating the wider town into the regeneration scheme.

A new commercial development, Marshall's Yard is now the town's new centre and home to retail, leisure and office accommodation, including new headquarters for the local council.  Around Marshall's Yard industrial land has been brought back into use to provide further employment land, new houses are being built, and the entire surrounding area has seen huge investment in high quality public realm.

The regeneration of Gainsborough town centre has won several prestigious industry awards.
