New District Centre for East Manchester
The striking modern architecture of the design will herald a new future for the Openshaw area of East Manchester. The design follows wide consultation to ensure that the new centre will fit into its setting and achieve its aim of revitalising this part of Manchester. We are working in partnership with Manchester City Council and New East Manchester on the project, which will regenerate a large industiral area.
Anchored by Morrisons in an 90,000 sq ft store, the scheme will also deliver a covered shopping mall, ten further retail units, office accommodation and a leisure and fitness centre. Cafes and restuarants in a public realam area will further enhance the ambienace.
Thse new facilitites will help serve Openshaw's rapidly growing population, which is on target to double within the next ten years.
Planning permission has been secured, and work will start on site later this year.
