New District Centre for Openshaw

Following detailed design work by WCEC Architects, construction of the first phase of Dransfield properties Ltd £40 million scheme at Openshaw, East Manchester has now started on site. This stage of the project sees the construction of a new 79,250 sq ft Morrisons store and associated car parking.
WCEC Architects ambitious centrepiece for the regeneration of East Manchester was granted planning approval in 2007. The development which will be anchored by the Morrisons store is on an 11.9 acre site off Ashton Old Road in Openshaw.
As well as the new Morrisons store, phase 2 of the mixed use scheme will include:
· 78,000 sq ft of smaller retail units
· 650 car parking spaces
· Stand alone office space as well as 20,000 sq ft accommodation above the retail units
· New and improved public spaces throughout the development
PDR Construction are building this first phase and have started enabling works on site.
Retail property developers Dransfield Properties Ltd are working in partnership on the development with New East Manchester as part of the co-ordinated regeneration of the eastern side of the city. The new centre will serve the wider community and will create up to 750 new jobs in the area.
