Next Phase of Masterplan Revealed

wcec architects have revealed the second stage of their masterplan to redevelop Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane Ground. The fans and local community have already had an opportunity to comment on the proposals following an exhibition and public consultation at Bramall Lane in June.
This design by wcec architects is part of a long-term investment strategy by the Blades to improve the ground to meet the needs of the supporters and create the required standard as part of Sheffield Uniteds bid to be a potential 2018 World cup venue.
The main focus of this phase is the redevelopment of the existing South Stand incorporating an additional tier of seating which will increase the capacity of the stadium to over 44,000.
A purpose built exhibition and conference centre will be created within the South Stand and new facilities for supporters will be provided along with additional corporate facilities. New commercial and banqueting suites will be developed.
These proposals follow on from the recently approved first stage which will see the Kop remodelled to increase the capacity of Bramall Lane to 37,000 and facilities improved with a new covered concourse, additional executive boxes and a new enterprise centre.
Design Architect Jason Ainsworth said "this final intervention for the Bramall Lane stadium was designed to physically connect the Copthorne Hotel and the Business Enterprise Centre which lie at either end of the stadium. The contemporary facades proposed for the extension are reflective of the previous stages of improvement and will tie the whole development together with a cohesive and legible architectural style".
