Four star hotel complete
17 Dec 2008
The four star hotel built for clients Sheffield United is now complete with operators Millennium Copthorne set to welcome its first guests in January.
The hotel features 157 spacious bedrooms including penthouse and executive suites, all with the highest quality facilities.
Each floor has rooms equipped for families and disabled guests, and a large state of the art gymnasium, open to both guests and members, is located on the first floor. A 180 seater restaurant is on the ground floor.
The location of the hotel, adjacent to the football stadium and on one of the main arterial routes in and out of the city, provided an excellent opportunity to produce a contemporary building of landmark quality.
The main facades of the hotel feature large expanses of curtain wall glazing within an aluminium picture frame surround feature. Between the two main facades is a feature tower in buff brickwork, which comes to ground over an impressive glazed entrance lobby and canopy.
A key feature on the front elevation is a projecting cantilevered pod which is edged in green rainscreen panelling to give an aged copper appearance, and the red brickwork ensures the building co-ordinates with the adjacent stadium.
The hotel is set to kickstart the regeneration of the local Sharrow area, which will be further transformed by Sheffield United and WCEC who are jointly working on plans to redevelop areas of the stadium.
