Asda Halesowen open for business

wcec's latest supermarket for retail giants Asda opened for trade in November bringing a 72,500 sq ft new foodstore to the Cornbow Shopping Centre in Halesowen, West Midlands.
The new store is part of a Ł20 million regeneration of the town centre which will also deliver a large extension to the previously run down shopping mall and upgrade the shopping facilities.
Over two storeys, with four storey car park above, this landmark design for Asda features curving rendered vertical circulation cores with elevations broken up by rain screen cladding, architectural steel framing, and areas of mesh panelling providing an exciting and dynamic effect. It has been given an energy performance certificate rating of B; which is considered excellent for a supermarket.
It has already proved a huge success in bringing a boost to the town, attracting over the forecasted customer numbers of 50,000 a week.
Other phases of development include a new transport interchange which will complete the overall redevelopment of Halesowen town centre.
The shopping centre has continued to trade throughout the refurbishment programme and the construction of the new Asda store, requiring meticulous phasing to ensure high standards of safety and minimal disruption to the centre.
