HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, has officially opened the new £4.3 million headquarters for West Lindsey District Council in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.

Designed by WCEC Architects, the four storey building is one of the region’s most environmentally friendly public buildings with solar energy, intelligent lighting, rainwater harvesting, and natural ventilation.

The new headquarters has allowed all staff to be brought into a single location, centralising council services and freeing up three former local authority sites for development.

The building is in a landmark position on Gainsborough’s £39 million Marshall’s Yard mixed use development which is home to national and local retailers, restaurants, a health club and office tenants.  Also designed by WCEC, Marshall’s Yard has transformed Gainsborough and kickstarted unprecedented levels of public and private sector investment in the town.

Gavin Ward, partner at WCEC said: “The opening of the West Lindsey District Council building completes the first phase of the Marshall’s Yard development, which is now a thriving retail, leisure and office destination attracting visitors from miles around.”
