WCEC Architects finalists in regional business awards

22 January 2008

Chesterfield architects WCEC have been announced as a finalist in the prestigious Derbyshire Business Awards, in the business skills and staff development category.

Organised by Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce, the awards reward companies that have pioneered new concepts and innovation; have excelled in commercial enterprise through exports or increased business - or distinguished themselves with their attitude to workforce development or their commitment to the community.

WCEC Architects is one of just three companies shortlisted for this award.  One of the largest commercial practices outside of London, the company is responsible for designing award winning regeneration schemes up and down the country, and is partnering architect for household names such as Asda, Morrisons, B&Q and Sheffield United Football Club.

The Derbyshire Business Awards announcement is hot on the heels of several recent award successes for the company.  WCECs design of the Marshalls Yard retail, commercial and leisure complex in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire,  recently won the British Council of Shopping Centres Gold Award (one of the retail industrys highest accolades), the East Midlands Development Agency Regeneration Project of the Year and the Royal Town Planning Institute (East Midlands branch) Regeneration Project of the Year.

The Derbyshire Business Awards winners will be announced at a black tie gala dinner at Pride Park Stadium on 22 February.

Alex Wall, partner at WCEC, said We are delighted to have made it through to the finals of the Derbyshire Business Awards.  Our success as a practice is down to the commitment of our team and our investment in staff development means that our employees are skilled and motivated which ensures the continued growth and success of the practice.  The announcement that WCEC is a finalist in the staff development category recognises the hard work that all staff have put in over the past two years to create a true learning organisation, which has brought increased commercial success for the practice.
