Top awards for Gainsborough scheme!

The Marshalls Yard development in Gainsborough has scooped two top industry awards, just six months after opening its doors to the public.
The Ł39 million retail leisure and office complex has just been announced the winner of the town regeneration category in the East Midlands Royal Town Planning Institute Awards, which rewards success in sustainability, design, delivery, community involvement and imagination.
This follows on from the award of Regeneration Project of the Year by the East Midlands Development Agency which praised the development as a brilliant entry, a project what has shifted the whole centre of gravity in Gainsborough while retaining its natural heart.
WCEC designed the Marshalls Yard scheme for developers Dransfield Properties and Prospect Estates. On a site entirely covered with listed buildings, Marshalls Yard presented a number of design challenges which have resulted in a unique architectural mix, where carefully restored structures sit alongside new buildings carefully designed to complement the historic buildings on the site.
Delivering a mixture of retail, commercial, and leisure space, the centre has transformed the fortunes of Gainsborough, which had been in decline for many years. Alex Wall, Partner at WCEC said: The awards are a tribute to the commitment of everybody involved in this project. The scheme presented some enormous challenges to overcome, but the end result is a stunning example of architectural design which has played a vital role in regenerating the town of Gainsborough.
