WCEC Architects have underlined their commitment to tackling environmental issues by becoming members of the Green Register.
WCEC Partner Alex Wall said as commercial architects we are well aware that the construction and property industry contribute a large percentage of the UKs total carbon emissions. We are committed to creating buildings based upon the principles of sustainability. Good sustainable design enriches the environment for the well being of the public, providing enduring buildings which are economic to use. Our membership of the Green Register will enhance our ability to produce sustainable design and it will provide a valuable resource.
The Green Register is a training and networking organisation that brings together all disciplines in the construction industry who have a demonstrable commitment to sustainable building practices. It is committed to increasing the knowledge and application of sustainable building practices through training, networking and by offering a resource that can be used by everyone involved in construction.
WCEC Architects have an active sustainability group which employs specialist skills in support of its technical teams. This ensures that the practice provides viable, practical and sustainable building designs. WCECs expertise in this field ensures that they integrate and co-ordinate specialist engineering disciplines within the wider design team.
WCEC are currently incorporating many sustainable design solutions into its projects, for example the new council offices for West Lindsey District Council being built at Gainsborough include a rainwater harvesting tank, solar panels to provide electricity and a natural ventilation system. Another project to deliver a new community centre in Arbury, incorporates an eco roof system. This system reduces the emissions of carbon dioxide whilst creating oxygen. It filters dust and smog particles out of the air whilst acting as an excellent insulator for the building.
