WCEC has cutting edge design for Blades stadium

Multi award-winning Derbyshire architects WCEC is helping to transform Sheffield Uniteds stadium into a premiership leisure location in the city.
The Chesterfield based practice has drawn up designs for a new 2,100 seat Corner Stand between the Bramall Lane and Global Windows South Stand and a four-star hotel on land bordered by Bramall Lane and Cherry Street. The new corner stand will also include an area for disabled supporters.
A planning application for the ten-storey hotel development has been submitted to Sheffield City Council. The scheme would provide a 150-bedrooms with two restaurants, bars and gym facilities.
Ashley Turner, WCEC partner, said: We have been involved with Sheffield United over many years, although this is the largest and most extensive project we have undertaken for the club.
We are very pleased as a local practice to have the opportunity to work on this exciting scheme, which is an important regeneration of a key city centre site.
There is a significant amount of investment and redevelopment occurring in Bramall Lane and the enclosure of the final open corner of the stadium will enhance both the inside and outside of the ground.
The rapidly expanding WCEC practice has already started on site with a scheme to convert existing first floor facilities in the Global Windows South Stand into an open plan Sponsors/Executive Members dining area with additional direct links to the pitch side seating area.
Planning permission has been sought for the hotel and corner stand which, if approved would see work starting on site this October for completion March next year.
Mark Fenoughty, Sheffield United Finance Director, said: This hotel scheme will provide a boost to the clubs long term financial viability and the Sheffield City regions hotel offering will be enhanced by a modern and contemporary four-star venue.
The hotel compliments the extensive conferencing and banqueting facilities that we already have at the Club and is complementary to the proposed entertainment complex, which incorporates a Casino on the Cherry Street
