Award-winning Derbyshire architects WCEC have doubled the size of their Scottish office in just five months.

9 May 2005

The practice opened its new satellite operation in Livingston, near Edinburgh, last December with just four staff. The development forms part of a major corporate expansion programme which is confirming WCEC as a major UK practice.

The Livingston office now has eight staff and the practice is extending the lease on the building to provide more office space.

Partner Alex Wall said: We have been delighted with the way the Scottish division has developed in such a short period of time.

We now have a senior team in Livingston and are looking at several sites for new retail and commercial developments and large extensions for several clients.

WCEC, which enjoyed record growth during 2004, opened its Scottish office having already been appointed to the multi-million pound regeneration of Port Glasgow town centre.

They are working with developers JJ Gallagher on the major redevelopment of the former Clyde Port shipyards which will include a 100,000 sq ft retail park and huge Tesco Extra superstore.

The ambitious project will involve the creation of a new civic square for Port Glasgow which is being built around the historic ship The Comet. Engineering work has started on site to realign the main A8 and building work is expected to start in 2006.

WCEC, which is based in Sheepbridge, Chesterfield, is also working on a range of supermarket renewals and new build schemes across Scotland.

Its LIvingston office has just completed a £6 million project in Aberdeen converting a major Asda store. Alex Wall added: This was a very fast track job involving just over six weeks on site, spending £1million a week.

We worked very closely with HGB contractors to get the store turned around, converted and opened ready for trading. We also have two new Asda stores starting on site in Motherwell and Huntley this year.
