The Mount Retail Park

There has been a long held aspiration for further regeneration of "The Mount Retail Park" and now plans have been submitted. wcec have been working alongside Mount Pleasant Urban Regeneration Company on behalf of Dransfield Properties.
This development will not only regenerate this run down site but will also bring 400 new jobs to the area. The scheme will deliver:
· A new food store covering 92,500 sq ft
· 600 car parking spaces
· New petrol filling station
· A range of smaller retail units
· A piece of public art
The site is located in a prominent position on the corner of Holderness Road and Mount Pleasant, in close proximity to the existing larger scale retail units and also the district centre. It is currently occupied by run down and mostly vacant retail and service units on the Holderness Road elevation. To the rear of these buildings is a scrap metal yard, a car dealership and some smaller scale employment units.
The site presents the opportunity to explore low carbon and renewable energy generation, with CHP being the most obvious technology candidate. The illustrative layout identifies an area where the required plant could be accommodated. It is anticipated that any such requirement will be addressed via condition and explored more fully through the reserved matters submission.
The renowned sculptor Robert Erskine is working on the designs for a piece of public art. Mr Esrkine has worked on a number of schemes, including The Alexandra Retail Park in Tunstall where the piece of art known as The Shard was unveiled last year.
