IT Investment Leads to Planning Gains

IT Investment Leads to Planning Gains

A significant investment in both new technology and training is reaping rewards for the clients of Chesterfield based Architects WCEC.

By combining architectural creativity with the latest software their pre development team is able to produce 3d models which enable clients to visualise the proposed projects easily. The system also enables closer coordination with other consultants such as engineers and quantity surveyors to speed the construction process and ensure that any problems are spotted before construction begins.

Another exciting development is the blending of these computer generated models into digital photographs of the existing area to show how the new projects will sit in the surrounding landscape. This is of particular benefit during the planning process to enable the advantages of a scheme to be illustrated.

The skills of the team have recently been ably demonstrated when WCEC gained planning permission for a mixed-use industrial and office redevelopment in Ilkeston for Rom Capital. The project was fully modelled in 3d design software and will be developed as a fully engineered 3d construction model. The scheme comprises of 12 small industrial units together with a three storey office block. The office block features brick and rendered panels with a glazed facade designed to respond to the existing street scene.

WCEC Partner Gavin Ward said, “We are committed to investing in our staff and the latest technology to ensure that WCEC are able to provide an outstanding service which provides deliverable and profitable solutions for our clients.”
